About us

I’m Joanne, owner of My Little Learning Star. I live in North Yorkshire with my husband and our four children, two dogs, five fish and a tortoise! I have worked as a primary school teacher across all age ranges for over 16 years, and our eldest child has autism and ADHD which inspired me to qualify as a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) so that I could help to provide extra support for children with additional needs and their families.

I have always been passionate about encouraging children to develop and explore a love of learning in a way that makes them to want to keep on being inquisitive throughout life.

In November 2019 I designed my first Learning Book for our then two year old and and she loved using it and would often choose to carry out the activities in it of her own free choice. I also created routine charts for our son to help him to develop some independence and we found that they made such a positive impact on our mornings and bedtimes. My husband encouraged me to offer making them to help other children, so I ordered a new laminator and a small batch of packing boxes and that was just the beginning!

As we entered lockdown I began to make more activities to support with our homeschooling and added these to my shop, and the range of products has kept on growing since. I would call our children ‘my little learning stars’ when they were carrying out their learning at home, and hence the name for my business was born!

To me it is incredibly important that all children should have the opportunity to learn in a fun and interactive way, therefore I like to make sure that each of my products can be personalised to specific needs and priced as low as possible to make them accessible to as many children as possible. I love making bespoke items so if you would like support in a specific area of learning or have an idea but can’t see it listed then please do contact us and I will do my very best to accommodate.
