PHASE 2 SATPIN PHONICS ACTIVITY PACK

Phonics is a method of learning to read and write by matching sounds to individual letters or groups of letters. These can then be blended together to help with decoding words by sounding them out.

Children often learn the 'SATPIN' words first - learning the letter sounds S,A,T,P,I,N. Once these letter sounds have be learnt children can move on to blend them to spell simple words such as s/a/t --> sat and p/a/n --> pan.

This set provides a range of educational activities to practise developing SATPIN skills which are taught as part of Phase 2 phonics.

Cut out the SATPIN letters to support learning for each activity.

Activities include:
- Match the initial letter sound to the picture and place the letter card over the top.
- Trace the letters and practise writing the letter on the writing frame.
- Say the object out loud, break the word down into the individual letter sounds and write in letter in the boxes underneath.
- Use the letter cards to sound out and blend to make a word, then practise writing the word in the writing frame.

Also included is a useful activity guide sheet which provides more information about what SATPIN is and why it is taught, guidance for carrying out each activity and an introduction to the terminology that is used in the teaching of phonics.
